Yoga is a form of exercise that incorporates physical poses, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation. It has many potential benefits for overall health and well-being, and in particular we must not forget the benefits it has in stabilising our hormones.
Some studies have suggested that regular yoga practice may help reduce stress and anxiety, which can have indirect effects on hormone levels. For example, stress can trigger the release of cortisol, a hormone that is involved in the body’s stress response. Over time, chronically high cortisol levels can disrupt the balance of other hormones in the body, such as oestrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. By reducing stress and promoting relaxation, yoga may help regulate the body’s stress response and reduce the negative impact of cortisol on other hormones. Additionally, practicing yoga regularly has been proved to potentially help improve the function of the endocrine system responsible for producing and regulating our hormones.
We also know there is an impact on improving overall cognition and mood, bone health, and even reducing the severity and frequency of hormonal flushes.
