Migraine Treatment & Botox® for Chronic Migraine in Newcastle

Migraine is More Than "Just a Headache"

Migraine is a complex neurological condition that affects millions of people in the UK. In fact, around 1 in 7 people are affected by migraine at some point in their lives.

Whilst many people associate migraine with severe headaches, the reality is often much more complex. Symptoms can occur before, during and after an attack, and can affect almost every aspect of daily life.

Common Migraine Symptoms may include:

Throbbing or pulsating headache, often on one side of the head

Nausea and vomiting

Sensitivity to light, sound or smells

Visual disturbances (aura)

Dizziness or balance problems

Brain fog and difficulty concentrating

Fatigue and exhaustion

Neck pain and muscle tension

Food cravings

For some people, the headache itself is only one part of the migraine experience.

The Impact of Migraine

Migraine can have a significant impact on quality of life. Many people find themselves:

Some migraine attacks last for several hours, whilst others can continue for days.

People often describe feeling as though they lose large portions of their life to migraine.

Our Approach to Migraine

Many people who come to see us have already spoken with their GP and some may also be under the care of a neurologist or headache clinic. At The Bespoke Clinic, we do not replace your GP or neurologist. We work alongside your existing healthcare team.

Our role is to look at the bigger picture and explore whether there are factors contributing to your overall migraine burden that may not have been fully addressed. During your consultation we will discuss:

Looking Beyond the Migraine

Whilst migraine is a recognised neurological condition, there are often additional factors that can influence how frequently attacks occur and how severe they become. These may include:

These factors do not necessarily cause migraine, but they may influence the frequency, severity and recovery from attacks.

Our aim is to help you better understand your body and reduce the impact migraine has on your daily life.

Migraine Treatment Options

Every treatment plan is personalised .Depending on your individual circumstances, this may include:

Lifestyle and Trigger Management

Understanding your personal migraine triggers can be incredibly valuable. We help patients identify patterns and implement realistic strategies to reduce exposure to common triggers.

Nutritional and Supplement Support

There is growing evidence that certain nutrients, including magnesium and riboflavin (vitamin B2), may help reduce migraine frequency in some individuals.

Where appropriate, we can discuss evidence-based nutritional strategies and supplementation, that are personalised to you – no one size fits all approach.

Functional Medicine Investigation

For patients who feel they have “tried everything” but are still struggling, functional medicine testing may sometimes help uncover underlying contributors.

This may include exploring hormone balance, nutritional status, gut health, inflammation, stress physiology and other factors that could be influencing migraine burden. If we get to the root cause, and help optimise from that perspective, then the migraine load will hopefully settle

Botox® for Chronic Migraine

For suitable patients, we also offer Botox® treatment for chronic migraine. Botox® is licensed for the prevention of chronic migraine and may be considered in patients who meet appropriate clinical criteria. Chronic migraine is generally defined as headaches occurring on 15 or more days per month, with migraine features on at least 8 of those days, for more than 3 months.

Treatment is delivered by Dr Neet Dang using the PREEMPT protocol, the internationally recognised treatment approach used for chronic migraine. Treatment is typically repeated every 12 weeks where appropriate. Many patients who enquire about migraine Botox® are also interested in exploring whether there are other factors contributing to the frequency or severity of their migraines, and this wider perspective is central to our approach.

Questions answered

Frequently asked questions.

Can Botox® help migraines?

Yes, Botox® can be an effective treatment for chronic migraine in carefully selected patients. It is not usually used for occasional migraines or tension headaches. A consultation is required to determine whether treatment is appropriate.

Some people notice improvement within a few weeks, whilst for others it may take longer. It is common to assess response over more than one treatment cycle before deciding how effective treatment has been.

There is no single cause of migraine. Genetics, hormones, stress, sleep disruption, environmental factors and lifestyle triggers may all play a role. Understanding your individual triggers and patterns can often be helpful.

Yes. Many women notice migraines worsening around ovulation, before periods, during perimenopause or after changes in hormonal contraception. Hormonal influences are an important consideration when assessing migraine.

Functional medicine does not replace conventional migraine treatment. However, it may help identify factors that could be contributing to the overall migraine burden, such as sleep issues, nutritional deficiencies, hormone imbalances, blood sugar instability or gut health concerns.

Not necessarily. During your consultation, Dr Neet will review your history and determine whether further assessment or referral would be appropriate. Some patients will already have seen a neurologist, whilst others may not.

You should seek urgent medical advice if you experience a sudden severe headache, new neurological symptoms such as weakness or speech difficulties, loss of consciousness, or any other symptoms that are unusual for you.
