What is the Thyroid Gland?

The thyroid gland is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of the neck. It plays a crucial role in regulating various bodily functions, including metabolism, energy production, growth, and development. The thyroid produces two main hormones: triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), which are responsible for controlling metabolism.

Common Thyroid Disorders:

  • Hyperthyroidism: This condition is characterized by an overactive thyroid gland, leading to excessive production of thyroid hormones. Symptoms may include weight loss, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, irritability, heat intolerance, and sleep disturbances.
  • Hashimoto’s thyroiditis: It is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland, causing chronic inflammation and ultimately leading to hypothyroidism.
  • Graves’ disease: Another autoimmune disorder where the immune system stimulates the thyroid gland, causing excess production of thyroid hormones, resulting in hyperthyroidism.

The Bespoke Clinic Approach to Thyroid Health

It is very common for many patients who have symptoms of thyroid dysfunction to have normal or borderline results in their thyroid function blood tests and therefore at The Bespoke Clinic we review a patient’s full picture, including the symptoms and test results.

We may use advanced testing, such as comprehensive blood panels, to evaluate thyroid function and identify imbalances or deficiencies. By taking this approach, we can tailor the management of your thyroid health and symptoms accurately.
