Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) refers to a group of physical and emotional symptoms that many women experience in the days or weeks leading up to their menstrual period. PMS can affect women of any age who menstruate, but it is most common in those between 20 and early 40 years old.

It is a common issue and thought to be related to hormonal changes, in particular a low level of Progesterone which is produced in the 2nd part of the cycle. When the balance of oestrogen and progesterone is wrong, it leads to physical and mood related symptoms. These symptoms can vary widely in severity and type, but some of the more common ones include:

  • Mood changes, such as irritability, anxiety, or depression
  • Bloating and fluid retention
  • Breast tenderness
  • Fatigue or trouble sleeping
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Food cravings or changes in appetite
  • Acne or other skin changes

Some women may find relief from PMS symptoms through lifestyle changes, such as regular exercise, a healthy diet, and stress management techniques. In some cases, medication or supplements may be recommended to help manage symptoms. The Bespoke Clinic will consider these lifestyle measure but also consider the use of bioidentical hormones to treat PMS. The consultation with the doctor will fully evaluate your concerns and a comprehensive female hormone blood profile will be done to ensure we know the starting point for the hormone imbalance. If there is an abnormality in hormone balance, then we can tailor the bioidentical hormone dosage to your needs. Most women find an improvement not only in their symptoms, but also in their quality of life.
